Westbury has always been an interesting railway centre, located at the junction of the ex-Great Western main line from Paddington to the West Country, the Trowbridge line (towards Bristol and South Wales) and the Salisbury line (for Portsmouth, Brighton, etc). The Westbury track layout was remodelled in 1984, when the power box took control.
Passenger services comprise HST, locomotive-hauled and multiple-unit trains. Main line trains not booked to call at Westbury are routed via the Avoiding Line but most of the traffic needs to pass through the station, which has 3 bi-directional platform lines.
There is a lot of freight traffic, especially heavy stone trains stopping for crew changes and a variety of movements to and from the various yards within the simulation area.
